I hope you’ve been enjoying my session faves video series! I’ve really been enjoying putting these videos together. :)

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the first video here and second video here (this one will enhance the musical quality of your sessions, I’m sure of it!)

This next session fave is a MUST if you work with individuals on the autism spectrum.

Watch this video to see why (& be sure to watch the second clip that shows me co-treating with an occupational therapist – awesome stuff!)

I highly recommend you collaborate with an occupational therapist and allow them to advise you on the best way to implement these sensory integration techniques.

Collaborating will also allow the opportunity for you as the music therapist to demonstrate how the music is functioning as part of the experience.

For example in the first clip, lyrics cue the child to bounce and stop; and the rhythmic beat and tempo tell him how fast to be bouncing.

In the second clip, I use a 6/8 meter so the strong beat lies on the 1 and the 4. This tells the children (and the OT who is facilitating!) when the children should be ‘front’ and when they should be ‘back’ as they roll.

All these musical elements work together to organize the entire experience.

There you have it!

I hope you’re enjoyed this mini-series and I will certainly be sharing more session faves in future blog posts.

What would you add? What do you absolutely LOVE to use in your sessions that enhances the quality of service you provide?
