Happy New Year

Happy new year!

This holiday season has truly been wonderful. It was full of family, friends, cooking, traveling, and music – all the things I love and cherish.

With the holiday season coming to a close and the new year unfolding before  me, I wanted to be sure to take time to start the year right and start it with intention.

I am a firm believer in two things: the power of goal-setting and the power intention.

I set goals – both personal and professional – at the beginning of each year.

My professional goals are often drawn from my “bucket list.”

This year, though, I’m going easy on myself since I have my 19-month-old with me on the days I work from home.

My professional goals this year include offering more resources for music therapists (I have something really cool in the works – more on that soon!) and expanding my group music therapy offerings.

I look forward to contributing again to our music therapy journals, to presenting at conference and continuing to supervise music therapy students. But this year is not the year to work towards those goals.

My sweet baby is only this young for a short amount of time, so I am creating a few realistic goals for myself to ensure I can give her the time and attention she needs (and that I want to give her!)

In addition to goal-setting, I also believe in the power of intention.

I truly believe that what you focus on, you get more of.

With that in mind, I am writing my professional goals out on paper and posting them on my desk.

This way they are front and center and I can be sure that I’m taking steps each and every day to work towards those goals.

I want to challenge you, also to start this year with intention.

What goals can you set for yourself? What can you do to ensure you’re taking steps each and every day to work towards achieving those goals?

Let’s start the year off right and continue to encourage and support each other on our journeys!
